Thoroughbred Youth Athletics is meant to address, on a local level, the rapid decline of our youth’s health and physical fitness. We are now beginning to see the ramifications of this decline explicitly in our society. “Obesity is a serious health concern for children and adolescents. Data from NHANES surveys (1976–1980 and 2003–2006) show that the prevalence of obesity has increased: for children aged 2–5 years, prevalence increased from 5.0% to 12.4%; for those aged 6–11 years, prevalence increased from 6.5% to 17.0%; and for those aged 12–19 years, prevalence increased from 5.0% to 17.6%,” (National Center for Health Statistics, 2008). Our youth need engaging and actionable tools to fight a battle that we are statistically losing in dramatic fashion. Our present economic environment contributes to this battleground being increasingly unstable as afterschool programs, physical education, and sports programs are reduced or cut completely. The TBY Athletics program will give our youth dynamic and sustainable weapons to win this battle from the bottom up and turn the tides of our nation’s decline in health.
The Swiss Army knife of fitness is a training method called Crossfit. Not only is it complete and functional but it is attractive and you’ll keep it in your pocket forever. “Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Healthy living requires that our kids push, pull, run, throw, climb, lift, jump, effectively and safely regardless of whether or not they play athletics. Athletics is a specialized pursuit. Our goal is to support the specialist, but reward the generalist,” (Crossfit Kids, n.d.). We want for our youth to not only become healthier but we want them to have fun doing it and then incorporate those values into everything that they do. TBY Athletics rewards participants for athletic, scholastic, and volunteering achievements. All of this is accomplished as a 501C3 organization, through public and private sector sponsorship and investment, with the goal of no monetary barriers to the students. Good health is a very important means towards the holistic end of good citizenship and the pursuit of the American dream. Our posterity deserves this right and our times demand action by those with the capacity.
Join us. Crossfit is not just a workout. Crossfit is a global family. A family born from the genius and sweat of both everyday and legendary heroes. Our youth need actionable inspiration and role models to help lead them towards their potential. Thank you for your interest and support.
Warm Regards,
TBY Athletics Staff
