Prerequisite Student Requirements
1. Academic: While the TBY Athletics program will initially accept any student, regardless of grade point average, it is mandatory that each participant be at a 2.0 or above grade level within one semester of program entry. If this criterion is not satisfied, the student will be unable to test into the next skill level and put on a half semester academic probation. If the student is unable to attain a mid-term projected GPA of 2.0 their participation will be suspended until they are able to satisfy the criteria. It is recognized that extenuating circumstances play a dramatic role in academic performance and severe and/or traumatic instances will be taken into account when enforcing this requirement.
2. Safety and Conduct: Each participant and their legal guardian must sign a personal conduct agreement and liability waiver for the TBY Athletics program. The personal conduct agreement is meant to explicitly convey ethical and physical expectations. The program is to provide a supportive, positive, and safe environment. This is enabled by the prerequisite agreement by the student and their guardian of full compliance and commitment to the program. Transportation
TBY Athletics has partnered with Lee County Transit to offer reduced-cost transportation options for students in need. Any participating student can receive a 50% discounted 31 day bus pass for $20. Depending upon the level of need, the program goal is to have individual sponsors to cover this cost if the student and/or family are unable to. Lee County Transit will also be generously donating bicycles to the program for any youth who does not have immediate access to the appropriate bus line. In an effort to guarantee the student’s safety, TBY Athletics will be partnering with the Florida Bicycle Association who will be donating helmets to any student who receives a bicycle. It is our goal to remove any possible barriers to participation by any willing student of able-body.
We are also presently working with another local partner to secure a low or no cost option for transportation directly from each member’s school. We believe this will help us more effectively overcome yet another barrier to our youth getting healthy! Stay tuned for updates on the status of this partnership!
Program Structure
The goal of Thoroughbred Youth Athletics is to engage Lee County youth in a sustainable activity and lifestyle that will dramatically reduce their statistical pre-disposition towards increasingly common societal ills such as depression, obesity, diabetes, back and posture problems, drug use, etc.
* Each Skill Area is broken into two groups, Junior Varsity and Varsity. Junior Varsity is attained once two tasks are completed in a given skill area, i.e. Speed, Work, Core, etc. Varsity is attained upon completion of all listed Skill Areas for a given Skill Level, i.e. Freshman, Sophomore, etc.
Each student will be closely monitored and meticulously coached on proper form and technique. Mastery in this metric supersedes all others. In this manner the safety of the program is ensured and the value is internalized by the student.
Testing
Students must earn testing eligibility with physical readiness, grade point average attainment/stability and also volunteer credits. Each student must volunteer in community for the following amount of hours per level:
Student Progress Measurement and Tracking:
As illustrated above, the progress of the student during the course of the program is measured in a variety of ways to give a more complete picture of true physical fitness as defined by Crossfit. All areas of fitness are equally important and must be tracked. This will be done by methodical recording and reporting of all Crossfit areas of fitness:
Results will be shared with students and their family at their discretion. De-personalized results will be aggregated and shared with stakeholders and used for program value assessment.
